Logistics

There’s a reason this is called the heartland. Rockford is smack dab in the middle of the burgeoning I-39/I-90 Logistics Corridor and home to one of the top 25 cargo airports in the United States.

Now, when it comes to logistics, “Brown” is the new black; there isn’t much that UPS doesn’t know about moving cargo around the world. One thing it knows for sure is that the heartland, and Rockford in particular, is a remarkably efficient place to do just that. (DHL and BAX also have global facilities at RFD.)

Tim Hanson, General Manager of UPS’ Rockford Air Hub, swears by Rockford’s eager and efficient workforce, low operating costs, high quality of life and RFD, our outstanding airport. No wonder UPS decided to add to 75,000 square feet to its Rockford Air Hub, already the firm’s second-largest, in 2006. UPS is investing $25m in equipment upgrades to the $7.4m air hub.

“I’ve worked around the country and in my opinion, Rockford is a gem. In fact, my family and I will retire here; that’s how much we like it. Rockford people have a very good work ethic that you just don’t see anymore. It’s a first class community just waiting to be discovered. I’m glad to be a part of it,” he said.

“Rockford is integral to UPS, with flights every night from RFD to 25 destinations,” said Hanson. “We’ve grown six times since moving to Rockford. When our heavy freight facility is complete in Spring 2006, UPS will employ 1600 people at this air hub.”

In Rockford, “Brown” has experienced improved efficiency, rising productivity and increasingly satisfied customers - which all adds up to green. Isn’t that what logistics is all about?
