Aerospace Production, Research and Development
Aerospace engineering/manufacturing company Hamilton Sundstrand’s employs 2,300 workers in Rockford: nearly half are engineers. But the company invests in much more than human capital in Rockford; Hamilton Sundstrand has recently invested $50 million in its Rockford Airplane Systems Integration Facility and Integrated Systems Test Lab.
Tim Morris, president of Hamilton Sundstrand’s Aerospace Power Systems and Site Executive for the Rockford Campus, is happy to lead his team’s transition from component design and manufacturing to a global provider of integrated aerospace systems.
“I’m really excited to be in Rockford at a time when Hamilton Sundstrand is advancing its expertise in new products and systems capabilities for major aircraft system equipment packages,” said Morris. “This a high tech endeavor, and our efforts and investment are paying off.”
The company’s Rockford location is fast becoming an important hub in Hamilton Sundstrand’s global wheel.
“Our Rockford location is becoming the major center within Hamilton Sundstrand for integration and development of systems from our local businesses as well as from Hamilton Sundstrand’s businesses from around the world,” he said.
Morris is equally proud to be part of what he views as a community wide renaissance as a member or the Rockford Area Economic Development Council. He notes Rockford’s abundance of skilled engineers and workers - and the quality of life that appeals to them - as key business advantages. These advantages, of course are in turn being promoted aggressively by the Rockford Area Economic Development Council.
“I strongly believe in the work that’s being done by the RAEDC. The organization’s vision of building a stronger community through public-private partnership for economic development is a long-term benefit to all of us — as employers and community members,” Morris added.
