Health Care in the Rockford Area
Rockford area residents enjoy the highest quality in medical care from three hospitals in the city and others in the area. The three in Rockford are 396-bed Rockford Memorial, 357-bed SwedishAmerican, and 254-bed OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.
Rockford Memorial Hospital is part of Rockford Health System, which also includes Rockford Clinic and Rockford Health Plans. It also has associated clinics in 14 area locations. The hospital provides an asthma center, breast treatment center, a children’s medical center, a heart center, mammography center, a regional perinatal center and a rehabilitation center offering physical, speech, and occupational therapies. It is a Level I trauma center and operates the REACT helicopter. In addition, it has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit.
In March 2004, Rockford Memorial Hospital was named a Top 100 Performance Improvement Hospital by Solucient, a leading health care research firm. Rockford Health System also recently earned its sixth consecutive designation as a Top 100 Most Wired health system for use of technology by the AMA. OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is a 254-bed tertiary care facility located on a 109-acre campus near I-90 and US Business 20 in Rockford. It is a regional medical center known for providing pioneering care in its Level I Trauma Center, Regional Heart Institute, Center for Cancer Care, Illinios Neurosciences Institute and Women’s Center. It operates Lifeline ambulance and emergency helicopter services and is also a regional training center for trauma nurses. With its $5.7 million, 14,000 square-foot emergency department expansion, it strives to improve patient privacy, safety and efficiency.
