ComEd is one of the largest electric utility companies in the country. The owned generating capacity is over 19,179 megawatts. There are five nuclear generating stations totaling 9,407 MW or 49%, eight fossil units totaling 8,343 MW or 43.5%, and three fast-peaking sites having 19,179 MW or 7.5% of the total generating capacity. Record demand for electricity was 21,243 megawatts set July 30, 1999.
Gas Nicor Gas provides gas service to 641 communities in the northern third of Illinois, excluding the city of Chicago, and is the nation’s fifth largest natural gas distributor.
