Rockford’s Bon-Ton warehouse to serve more stores

The Bon-Ton Stores distribution center here will get more work in May, but not more employees.

Bon-Ton is closing its 175,000-square-foot distribution center in Green Bay, Wis. It’ll move those operations to centers in Rockford, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Spokeswoman Mary Kerr said they won’t be adding to the approximately 200 employees at the Rockford center, 4650 Shepherd Trail.

“The remaining distribution centers have sufficient capacity to support the stores in their respective geographic areas as well as the ability to expand to support future growth,” she said. “Obviously, the Rockford distribution center will get the majority of stores to service from the consolidation of the Green Bay operations due to their location.”

Kerr wouldn’t say how many stores the Rockford center will get. It will serve more than 118 stores, as well as online orders for Bergner’s, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman and other Bon-Ton brands.
