ROCKFORD, Ill., January 31, 2008 - Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. [NYSE:UTX], has announced an initiative to hire approximately 150 engineers at its Rockford, Ill. site. Hamilton Sundstrand, Rockford employs more than 2,200 people, nearly half of whom are engineers. Interested applicants may view the available positions at http://www.hamiltonsundstrandcareers.com
“This growth will continue to expand Rockford as Hamilton Sundstrand’s center of excellence for aerospace power management and systems integration,” explained Rockford Site Executive Tim Morris, President, Aerospace Power Systems. “For the past two years, the Rockford site has been hiring an average of one new engineer per week. With this initiative, we will be tripling that growth.” Morris added that the company expects to fill the positions before the end of 2008, as it ramps up to develop and integrate systems for several new aircraft and spacecraft programs.
The company has operated continuously in Rockford since 1905 in a variety of businesses, from adding machines, industrial products and machine tools, to aerospace, beginning in the 1950s. Today, Hamilton Sundstrand is a world leader in aerospace electric systems and aircraft systems integration, with its Electric Systems division in Rockford supplying power systems for nearly every military and commercial aircraft flying today. The 1999 merger of Hamilton Standard and Sundstrand Corporation expanded the company’s capability to provide integrated aircraft systems to meet the performance and operational
requirements of aircraft like the Boeing 787, Airbus A400M, Embraer 170/190, Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and MHI’s Mitsubishi Regional Jet, among others.
“We’ve prospered, throughout our history, by focusing on our customers’ needs and the future needs of our industry,” added Morris. “Our commitment to engineering innovation and company-funded research, as well as technology research funding from our commercial and defense customers, has positioned us with capabilities and systems solutions that are unique in the aerospace industry.” Morris cited the Boeing 787 Airplane Power System Integration Facility, in Rockford, as one example of the company’s distinctive capabilities.
U.S. Representative Donald Manzullo (R-IL) concurred, “Hamilton Sundstrand’s ability to develop new aerospace technologies remains a key driver to their continued growth and success.” Continuing a strong history of helping Hamilton Sundstrand fund development of key industry leading technologies, Congressman Manzullo, and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), recently secured $3.5M of technology research funding in the 2008 Defense Appropriations bill for the military’s Thermal and Energy Management for Aerospace THEMA) program.
Hamilton Sundstrand, Rockford is one of the primary contractors for this project, which will develop technologies to maintain superiority and competitive advantage for future military air vehicles.
”Hamilton Sundstrand’s performance under the THEMA initiative will significantly help position the company for future large technology programs currently being planned by the U.S. Air Force, which will require additional engineering staffing over the next two-to-five years,” added Manzullo.
With 2007 revenues of $5.64 billion, Hamilton Sundstrand employs approximately 18,300 people worldwide and is headquartered in Windsor Locks, Conn. Among the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and industrial products, the company designs, manufactures and services aerospace systems and provides integrated system solutions for commercial, regional, corporate and military aircraft.
